Sunflower seeds are actually not seeds but a cypsela.

They come from a sunflower and when you remove the shell the remainder part is edible and called the sunflower heart or kernel.

They are usually determined by the pattern they have on their husks. The black oil sunflower seeds are the ones with the solid black husk.

The husks with the stripes on them are mainly used for foods and are often referred to as confectionery sunflower seeds.

So can chinchillas eat sunflower seeds at all?
