Squash is a type of Cucurbita that is part of the gourd family, Cucurbitaceae.
The other members of the family of edible fruits include pumpkin and various species of gourds.
Squash is usually high in Vitamin C and A which is essential to the heath of a guinea pig.
So can guinea pigs eat squash at all?
Yes, they can and it is great for their health!
As mentioned above squash is high in Vitamin A and C which helps contribute to a healthy immune system and it also helps them metabolize proteins.
However it is important to only feed squash that is uncooked, fresh and clean to your guinea pig.
Also you do not want to overfeed squash to your cavy as it could make them sick. Two – four times a week of a serving size of 100 grams of squash would be ideal.
If you were to overfeed squash to your cavy it may cause them to experience diarrhea because of the high water content in this fruit.
Therefore moderation is key.
