Yams are often confused with sweet potatoes but they are not the same.
They are very similar but are slightly different in taste, colors and sizes. There are actually over 200 different varieties of yams.
This veggie has a scaly and rough exterior texture and flesh inner color going from ivory, to yellow to even purple.
So can guinea pigs eat yams safely or not?
Yes – but only if they are raw. Never feed cooked yams to your guinea pig. Guinea pigs cannot eat anything cooked for that matter.
The yams should be washed and cut into little pieces to give to your guinea pig. Nothing to big to cause a choking hazard for your guinea pig.
Yams are good for them in moderation as they are a good source of Vitamin C for your guinea pig.
