A long fermentation of dough is required in order to make sourdough bread. The fermentation occurs naturally using yeasts and lactobacilli.
The lactic acid produced by the lactobacilli produces a mild sour taste in the bread compared to other breads which use a cultivated yeast instead.
Personally this is one of my favorite breads and is great for sandwiches. But that doesn’t answer our question for this post so let’s get to the point.
So can hamsters eat sourdough bread at all?
Yes, a hamster can nibble on this type of bread but they shouldn’t have too much.
There is no nutritional benefits for hamsters to eat this type of bread and therefore it should only be an occasional treat where they don’t get a lot of it.
