Punica granatum is the botanical name of a pomegranate.
The fruit bearing small tree or deciduous shrub is part of the family Lythraceae and grows between 5 – 8 meters tall.
Often pomegranate is made into a juice and can also be used in some dessert dishes.
So can rabbits eat pomegranate at all?
Yes, but very little and not often as this fruit contains a lot of sugar.
In addition this fruit contains quite a bit of phosphorus content and there for be limited when feeding it to your rabbit.
Anything more than a little piece once a week will cause your rabbit to have stomach aches and possibly other negative health side effects.
Can Rabbits Eat Pomegranate Leaves?
Yes – bunnies can safely eat the leaves of a pomegranate as well but they may not like the taste.
Can Rabbits Eat Pomegranate Seeds?
No – it isn’t recommended for rabbits to eat the seeds because in large quantities they could be toxic to rabbits.
However the seeds of a pomegranate cannot be easily removed without juicing the fruit and therefore this is another reason why rabbits can only eat very little of this fruit.
